Explore the symbols.
Every measurement, every metal, every cloth was a sermon waiting to be preached. Here are six of the most striking.
The Outer Gate
One door. One way. The single gate into the courtyard pictures Christ's words — "I am the door; by me if any man enter in, he shall be saved."
"I am the way, the truth, and the life." — John 14:6
The Brazen Altar
Every approach to God began with blood. The altar foreshadowed the cross, where the perfect sacrifice was offered once for all.
"Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world." — John 1:29
The Bronze Laver
Priests washed before serving in the holy place. The laver speaks of the washing of regeneration and the Word that cleanses us daily.
"Now ye are clean through the word which I have spoken unto you." — John 15:3
The Lampstand
Seven branches burning continually with pure olive oil. A picture of the Spirit-filled Christ, the true light of every believer.
"I am the light of the world." — John 8:12
The Altar of Incense
Set just before the veil, incense rising day and night. Our prayers ascend through Christ, our great High Priest.
"He ever liveth to make intercession for them." — Hebrews 7:25
The Ark of the Covenant
Behind the torn veil — the place of mercy. The mercy seat sprinkled with blood points to the throne of grace opened by Christ.
"Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace." — Hebrews 4:16
