And the Lord called unto Moses, and spake unto him out of the tabernacle of the congregation, saying, speak unto the children of Israel, and say unto them, If any man of you bring an offering unto the Lord, ye shall bring your offering of the cattle, even of the herd, and of the flock. If his offering be a burnt sacrifice of the herd, let him offer a male without blemish: he shall offer it of his own voluntary will at the door of the tabernacle of the congregation before the Lord. And he shall put his hand upon the head of the burnt offering; and it shall be accepted for him to make atonement for him. And he shall kill the bullock before the Lord: and the priests, Aaron’s sons, shall bring the blood, and sprinkle the blood round about upon the altar that is by the door of the tabernacle of the congregation. And he shall flay the burnt offering, and cut it into his pieces. And the sons of Aaron the priest shall put fire upon the altar, and lay the wood in order upon the fire: And the priests, Aaron’s sons, shall lay the parts, the head, and the fat, in order upon the wood that is on the fire which is upon the altar: But his inwards and his legs shall he wash in water: and the priest shall burn all on the altar, to be a burnt sacrifice, an offering made by fire, of a sweet savour unto the Lord. If You Do Not Know Jesus, Who Is the Center of the Bible

I used to hold Bible studies with inmates at Suwon Prison. Once, during the Bible study, I was shocked to hear some-thing. When I asked, “How much of the Bible do you read?” most of them answered that they read the Bible a lot. I thought I would be in big trouble if I taught them something about the Bible the wrong way. What was more amazing was that some of them said they actually memorized the entire New Testament. During the Bible study, I asked them to stand in the front. I recited a Bible verse from the New Testament, and I asked them to recite the following verse. I wanted to confirm if they actually could recite the whole New Testament. They stumbled a little as they did this, but I was amazed to see them reciting verses from memory.

I had also memorized short books in the Bible like Galatians or Ephesians. I received grace as I memorized them. However, these people memorized the entire New Testament. Nevertheless, the sad thing was that they did not know Jesus Christ, who is the most important part of the whole Bible. Even though they memorized the New Testament, they did not know Jesus and were people who did not know the Bible. I did not read the Bible that much, but because I know Jesus, I became a person who knows the Bible well.

Many people act humble. However, if they do not truly know Jesus, who is the source of true humility, their humbleness is hypocrisy. Even though you may study theology diligently and become a biblical scholar, if you do not know Jesus, the center of the Bible, and if you do not know the secret of redemption, then it is the same as knowing nothing at all.

Whenever I read the Bible, I meet the Jesus contained in the Bible. When I first read the Bible, I only met Jesus from the four Gospels of the New Testament: Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John. But as I continued to read the Bible, little by little, I met Jesus outside of the four Gospels. Jesus appeared in Galatians and Hebrews, and He strengthened my heart.

The Lord upheld my heart and led me. Later on, I was even able to meet Jesus in the Old Testament. I was much happier to meet Jesus in the Old Testament rather than meeting Him in the New Testament. The New Testament reveals the image of Jesus who appeared physically. But, we can also find Jesus hidden throughout the Old Testament. When I actually saw Jesus Christ appear throughout the Old Testament, I thought, “No matter where I am or where I go, Jesus is always with me.” I’m very thankful that I was able to feel these things as I read the Bible.

I Hope That You Will Open the Bible and Find the Happiness Within

When I drive my car, I cannot see very far beyond my car because it is low. I only see what’s directly in front of me.

On the other hand, when I ride the bus, I am able to look around in every direction. Although I may be going along the same road, the view on the bus is different than the view I am used to with my car. “I didn’t know there was a place like this here. There’s a lake. There is a field over there.” I am able to see a lot of scenery that I cannot see when I am driving my sedan.

A while ago, I was on an airplane back to Korea from Japan. The weather was very nice. We flew by the lower part of Mount Fuji, and then flew over the city of Pohang. We then flew over the Andong Dam. Then the plane passed over the Jungbu Highway, and headed towards Suwon. Along the way, I could see a big lake behind the Suwon Interchange. I also saw the city of Anyang. I thought, “I didn’t know this was all here.” My perspective of that area completely changed.

Right now when you read the Bible, you may not be able to see as vastly into the Bible as if you were on an airplane.

But I hope that you don’t read the Bible like a person in a sedan. I sincerely hope that the more you read, the more room is created in your hearts to think a little deeper. From time to time, I hope that you open the Bible and think about the events and incidents that are taking place within the pages and even visualize them in your mind as you read. If you are born again, the Holy Spirit will lead you when you meditate on the Bible and reveal the spiritual secrets hidden within.

Meditating on the Bible, and discovering the heart of God are not just for ministers or pastors. If you are a born again Christian, you can pour your heart into reading the word of God no matter who you are. The Holy Spirit will help you.

The Holy Spirit leads your heart most strongly through the word of God. I hope you grow very close to the word. I hope you are taught through the words in the Bible. When you have difficult problems in your business, or when unreasonable insecurities take over your heart, I hope that you will put everything aside and open the word of God. Do not just read the Bible as if you’re driving on a highway. My hope is that you open the Bible from time to time and think deeply about the events that unfold inside of the words you are reading. When I read the Bible, I visualize the incidents that happened, as well as the story’s background. When I do this, I fall into the stories, and sometimes, it really feels like I am actually there.

When I read about the story of Jesus changing water into wine at the wedding in Cana of Galilee… when I think deeply about what actually transpired, it feels as though I was there.

I could see the image of Mary struggling because they were out of wine, and the face of the ruler of the feast. I could also visualize the servants who were filling the water pots with water when Jesus told them to do so. I could actually see the servants taking the water they drew and giving it to the ruler of the feast. I also visualized the ruler tasting the wine and being amazed, and rejoicing. Deeply thinking about these things allowed the Holy Spirit to fill the depths of my heart, bit by bit, with the will of God.

When I read the parts of Jesus’ sermon on the Mount, oftentimes, it felt as though I was sitting there where Jesus was preaching, and I was listening to His words. This did not happen because 1 am a special person. God wants to deliver His heart to His saved children. There are many different ways for God to deliver His heart to His saved people.

However, what God is most pleased with is delivering His heart through the 66 books of the Bible’s Old and New Testaments. If you try to see God, you cannot see Him very well. On the other hand, if you look through the word, you will be able to see Him.

True satisfaction cannot be found anywhere else except from the words in your small Bible. Jesus wants you to become close to the word. When you discover the living Jesus Christ within the words of the Bible, your heart is filled with Christ.

Then you will see the fact that you are already inside of Christ. From then on, the thoughts that used to work inside of you depart. Then, Christ, who is inside of your heart, begins to guide your life and gives you the direction you need to move forward.

A Strong Emphasis on the Priest

To continue speaking about Leviticus chapter 1, there are some parts that are a little strange as we read further. In chapter 1, it says, “the priests, Aaron’s sons,” which is the same as saying the “sons of Aaron the priest.” It means the same thing because all priests are descendants of Aaron. In the words that pertain to the burnt offering in chapter 1, the word “priest” is emphasized the most:

In verse 5 it says, “Priest Aaron’s sons.”

In verse 7 it says, “the priests, Aaron’s sons.”

In verse 9 it says, “Priest.”

When we just read through Leviticus chapter 1, we cannot really notice the nuances. But if we read the chapter while focusing on the word, “priest,” we can see that a strong emphasis has been placed on this word.

Jesus the Priest, Who Is at Work

As I read Leviticus chapter 1, I closed my eyes and thought about the burnt offering. A person gives a male calf for a burnt offering. Because the male calf is alive and healthy, it may kick, try to run into you, and it will cry out.

From that point on, the priest, who was previously sitting down, begins to work. The calf is killed and its blood is drained. It is then skinned and cut into pieces. Its entrails are then washed in water. Finally, the remains are all laid on the altar and completely burned. The smoke rises, and only ashes remain by the end of it. The priest continues to work until the calf is completely eviscerated. God is pleased when He sees the male calf that was sacrificed as the burnt offering was completely burnt up, rendered to ashes, and the flames extinguished. At that very moment, God is pleased. The priest is then able to take a seat and rest.

Who does the priest represent? He represents Jesus Christ. In the first session, we talked about how God accepts us when all our desires and plans of the flesh are placed on the altar, burnt, and turned into ashes. We can see in Leviticus chapter 1 that the priest endlessly works to turn our flesh into ashes.

I once took my pen and on a notepad, wrote down the things that came to mind as I was reading Genesis chapter 1. I discovered something amazing. In Genesis chapter 1, flowers bloomed, fruits were brought forth, fish began to swim, and birds began to fly on the once formless and void earth where darkness was on the face of the deep. It became a beautiful garden where animals frolicked free. During this process of change, the only one working was God. As I was reading the Bible, that fact entered my heart: “Only God works.”

In Leviticus chapter 1, I noticed the following designa-tions: “Aaron’s sons the priest,” “The sons of Aaron the priest,” and “The priest. ” Just like this word continually repeats in Leviticus chapter 1, almost every verse of Genesis chapter 1 says, “And God… And God… And God..” This word continues throughout the chapter. In regards to everything that changed through the work of God, it says, “And God saw that it was good.”

In John chapter 1, we know that “God,” who created heaven and earth, is actually Jesus Christ. John chapter 1 talks about this.

“In the beginning was the word, and the word was with God, and the word was God. The same was in the beginning with God. All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made. In him was life; and the life was the light of men.”

Here, the “He” is the word. And that word is described in John chapter 1, verse 14, which says, “And the word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth.”

The word that created heaven and earth represents Jesus Christ, who became flesh and lived among us. In Genesis chapter 1, it also says, “…and God saw that it was good.” This means that everything was done according to what God spoke into existence. In Genesis chapter 1, all of the things that God likes are brought forth.

The last chapter of Exodus talks about what God was most satisfied with. Moses called over Aholiab and Bazaleel and people of wisdom to build the tabernacle. Therefore, when the tabernacle was built, it continually says, “It was done as God had spoken to Moses.” We can see that God then filled the tabernacle.

No matter where you look in the Bible, the things that were pleasing and satisfying to God’s eyes, along with the things that God happily accepted, were achieved by Jesus Christ alone.

In Genesis chapter 1, the words, “And God saw that it was good,” means that it was done through Jesus alone because man did not partake in the things that happened back then. If man was involved in any of the things happening in Genesis chapter 1, even 0.001%, it would not have been recorded in the Bible, “And God saw that it was good.” Everything that looks good in God’s eyes can satisfy God and make God rejoice. God accepts things achieved without the involvement of man. They are things that are only achieved by Jesus Christ being at work.

The Holy Spirit Does Not Work Together with the Flesh

When God created heaven and earth, it says in Genesis chapter 2 that God finished everything that He was doing and rested. Like its name states, the Garden of Eden that God created was a place full of joy and happiness. Do you know when that beautiful place was destroyed? It was when man followed his own will and tried to do something. That was when the beautiful works of God came to an end.

Instead, everything was replaced with sadness and pain. As a result, death emerged and the power of darkness captured man. The priest and the sons of Aaron in Leviticus chapter 1 represent Jesus Christ. It is basically saying that Jesus is the only one to work, just like the priest. However, there are many people who maintain a religious mindset after they receive salvation and begin their spiritual lives, thinking, “Now that I’m saved, I should be better and serve God better from now on.”

At first, after receiving salvation I wanted to go abroad as a missionary. Afterwards, in 1965, I entered the military and began to preach the Gospel. The base I served was an educational base, and there was neither a church nor chaplain there.

Not a single soldier had a religious specialty. From the moment I arrived at that base as a trainee, gathered other soldiers and had service with them. preached the Gospel.

After my training, I was assigned to the same base, and ended up serving there and preaching the Gospel.

Around the time I was to be discharged, the base commander allowed the construction of a chapel on the base, and he opened the doors for me to do the work of the Gospel. As my discharge from the army drew nearer, I once again thought about going abroad as a missionary. However, meeting many soldiers made me notice that even though they went to church, their spiritual lives were so far from the Gospel. Of course, I knew these things beforehand, but in the army, I was able to really feel how true it was. At that time, a change happened in my heart.

I thought, “I shouldn’t go abroad as a missionary. I should preach the Gospel to these people.” Those thoughts took a strong hold over my heart. After I was discharged in Kimcheon, I started a small mission and began spreading the Gospel. I went to churches throughout the country and led revivals. I also led children’s summer vacation Bible schools.

At the churches I visited, many people received salvation and received change. Sometime after, God gave me a car, so I went back to the churches where I had led revivals. However, I saw that the people who received salvation and rejoiced so greatly had flamed out spiritually after just a few months. I could not find the answer to that problem, so I struggled with it very deeply by myself. I thought, “Did I preach the Gospel the wrong way? Why did this happen?”

Right then, there was something I strongly realized. The Holy Spirit does not work with our flesh. There is no partnership with us. In other words, even though God works, when we step up to do something, God simply steps out of the way.

Like I mentioned earlier, as I led revivals in many churches, I preached the Gospel and there were definitely many people who received salvation. However, the very next Sunday when they came to the Sunday services at their church, their pastor would preach, “Last week, the guest speaker came and we received lots of grace. Now that we have received grace, let’s go to church on Sundays more diligently. Since we have received grace, let us tithe more consistently. And since we have received grace, let’s be more Loyal to the Lord.”

The people listened to those sermons and said in their hearts, “Amen. Okay, I received grace, so I should live for the Lord.” The moment this heart enters a saved person and they have the heart to do something for the Lord, the works of the Holy Spirit simply end. It is the Holy Spirit that moves people to praise God from their hearts. But people depart from that and they try to do everything. That is when the works of the Holy Spirit end, and soon afterwards, the heart that was once so filled with the Spirit dies out.

Become Like Jesus?

When I used to give sermons for Asia Broadcasting, I had to go to the studio once a month to record the sermon that would be broadcasted. Because there were about 80 pastors who give sermons in a week, the studio where they recorded the sermons was always very crowded. So, I would call before going to the radio station. “I’m going to the radio station on this day at this time to record. What will the studio be like at that time?” The workers at the radio station catered to me very well, so that whenever I had time I was able to go and record.

When I recorded on Thursday mornings at 10 am, I usually took the subway to the station. I would normally arrive at the radio station about an hour early. At the radio station, I waited for my time slot to record. I would read the Bible while waiting, and take notes, pray, and get ready in my heart.

During those times, you could hear the other pastors recording their sermons. From inside of the studio, you could listen to their sermons through the speakers. Even if I did not want to, I had to listen to the sermon of the pastor who was recording before me.

His sermons were mostly not about having the Holy Spirit inside of the born again person work. Instead, he preached words about cheering on the humanistic will to do something. He said, “David was courageous. Everyone, live courageously! Joseph lived purely even though he was in prison. We, too, must live purely. Let us all be like Jesus.”

One day, while listening to his sermon, instead of those words being graceful to my heart, I became enraged. I thought to myself, “What in the world? These words are arrogant beyond measure. How could we ever be like Jesus?”

Can we be like Jesus? Go ahead! Open the New Testament and try to be like Jesus. When they were out of wine at the wedding of Cana of Galilee, what did Jesus do? “Fill the water pots with water, and draw now and bear it to the ruler of the feast,” is what Jesus said. If you said those words, you would probably get stoned in your neighborhood.

What did Jesus say to the man with an infirmity for 38 years? He said, “Take up your bed and walk.” If you go to the Hanyang University Hospital or Seoul National University Hospital and say to the patients lying on their beds, “Take up your bed and walk,” it would make no sense at all.

There’s something worse. Try to be like Jesus who walked on the sea. Surely, you will fall in the water and drown. How can we be like Jesus? We can never be like Jesus.

For us to become like Jesus, Jesus must enter our hearts. There is a great difference between us trying to become like Jesus, and Jesus entering our hearts. If Jesus enters us, the Holy Spirit leads our hearts to be able to read the Bible, pray, and witness. On the other hand, if we try to become like Jesus, then even though you may be a born again person, you are putting away the works of the Holy Spirit. You are trying to serve God according to your own will.

The Light Does Not Try to Become Light

Pastors who do not know Jesus try to cheer on the will of man because they do not know how to have the Holy Spirit work inside of their hearts. They think that a person will sin less if they make him or her feel very guilty about their sins every time they commit them.

As a result, when we preach the Gospel, if we say that the blood of Jesus has washed away all of our sins, they reply, “Then I guess you can sin as much as you want. ” The interesting thing is that, compared to the members of churches where the pastor emphasizes that they should not commit sins, our church members live much planer lives, though we never say such things out loud.

In our church, there is a brother who had suffered a long time in prison, but was saved. As I spend time with him, I can see this brother’s old image. Sometimes, I am able to see the rougher side of him, which was what ultimately led him to prison. I see that when he gets angry sometimes, he does not care about anything else and just gets enraged. When that happens, I do not tell that brother, “Why don’t you stop that and calm down.” I never say that to him at all.

When I went to prisons to have Bible studies, the guards of the prisons often told me, “Pastor, don’t ever give your home address to the inmates. Never give your phone number to them. Never take inmates to your home.” The problem is that even if I did not want to tell them, my home address and phone number were already written in the book, The Secret of Forgiveness of Sin and Being Born Again, so their advice was pointless. Additionally, I did not want to act that way.

There were times I allowed inmates from the prisons where I preached the Gospel to stay at my house. Some of them had taken things, and there were things I lost during their stay.

As I went to those prisons for Bible studies, I thought, “In order for me to preach the Gospel to the people in prisons, I had better make up my mind. There will be people I preach the Gospel to who will be saved and change. There will also be some people who will not be saved. They may come to my house and take the TV, refrigerator, or other things. If that happens, I will be okay with losing those possessions if I can gain one person.”

I said to our pastors in the Seoul metropolitan area, “When inmates from the prison Bible studies are released, one by one, I will send them to each of your churches. If you lose a TV, just consider it the Lord who took it. Gaining one person is much more important than those things, right?”

From then on, I went to prisons, had Bible studies, and spoke with the inmates with a peaceful heart. If there were inmates near their release dates, I would ask them when the exact date was. On the day they were released, I would wait for them in front of the prison, pick them up in my car, and bring them to our church. I would eat with them, give them gifts, some money, and then send them on their way. I gave them all my home address and told them to visit me often.

When I saw these brothers in prison, I would often times think, “That is why he committed sin.” The people who commit crimes are not strong-headed people. They are weakhearted people. As a result, they are unable to deal with their situations objectively. Instead, they let their emotions lead. However, the important thing is that the will of man is absolutely nothing at all.

A long time ago, the husband of a sister from our church would occasionally come to church and cause a scene. One day, I had gone to the South Busan Church and was preaching at the evening service. That man came and hit his wife so hard she passed out. I could not sit still, so I went up to him and grabbed his collar. “Hey! Where do you think you are, acting this way?” I yelled at him, and I held him up by his collar. Even though he was a young man, fortunately, he was weaker than I was so he was shaken up. “Hey, how dare you keep your shoes on and come in here! Do you know where you are?” He replied, “I’m a good citizen!” I could not really do anything else to him, so I just sent him out.

However, even afterwards, he would come to church and cause a scene whenever it was service time.

One early morning, I went to his house. “Mister so-and-so, are you here? Please open the door.” He was sleeping, but I kept on calling him, “Are you still sleeping? Wake up.” I did that for a while, and as a result, his will was broken. From then on, he did not come to our church to cause any more scenes.

Even though people act strong, their hearts are very weak. As I read the Bible and lived my spiritual life, I felt that because my heart was so weak it was a distraction to my ministry. There are lots of people whose hearts are even weaker than mine. How can you tell weak people to be good?

It is a good thing to do good deeds, but it is not something you can do just because you want to. The words of the Bible that state, “the heart is willing but the flesh is weak,” speak on our behalf already, do they not?

Many people go to church, and they listen to sermons that say they must be good. “Everyone, you must love your neighbor. You should not skip tithing. You must come to church on Sundays. You must become the light and salt of the world.” When we listen to such sermons, we feel, “That’s right.” Therefore, we try very hard to live that way.

However, a light does not try to become a light. Salt does not try to become salt. Salt is salt although it does nothing at all. If something became salt by trying to become salt, that is not real salt. A stone cannot say, “Let me become salt!” and then become salt.

If darkness tries hard to turn into light, can it become light? That could never ever happen. That is why trying hard to become something is only increasing your load, your burden, and your pain.

It is hard trying to become good, but it is also hard trying to become bad. Suppose a person tries to become a dog. How hard would it be? Try becoming a pig. It is extremely difficult. You have to be born of that seed to begin with. You have to be born a dog or a pig in order for it to be easy and natural to live that way. After you are born a human, it is hard trying to become a dog, which is not even as good as a person. So, how can people become like Jesus?

That Which Is of the Flesh Is of the Flesh

A while ago, a pastor from the city of Goheung came to see me. His wife attended our Bible conference we held in Busan City and received salvation. When she returned home, she could see that her husband, who was a pastor, was living the wrong spiritual life. She told her husband, “It’s my wish for you to meet Pastor Park, he lives in Daejeon City.” So, he came to see me.

Unfortunately, I was out and returned late that night. However, he waited for me. That night, I spoke with him for a little while and told him that we should sleep and talk again the next morning. But the pastor kept asking me to tell him more. However, I said, “I will tell you everything tomorrow morning, so let us go to sleep now:” That pastor slept in the room that was being used by Minister Kim and a brother in our church. Both of them knew that this pastor was not born again.

So the brother said to that pastor, “Pastor you have no conscience. Even though you’re not even born again, why do you act like you are? Why do you act like a hypocrite?” I think that’s what he said to him. This pastor was a very gentle and kind man, but he got very angry when he heard that.

After he got angry, he told Minister Kim, “I am a pastor, and yet I just got angry in front of a minister and a deacon.” He was tormented. However, being this way is because Jesus is not at work; he is at work. The pastor felt so uneasy that he could not take it anymore. At 1:30 am that morning, he left.

In the morning around 9 am, he called me. He said, “Pastor, I’m going back to Goheung. ” I replied, “Pastor, it is clear that you are not born again. Why do you not want to keep the promise you made to the servant of God? Why do you want to run away? If you were born again, surely you would come to meet me. Because you’re not born again, are you not keeping your promise and just leaving?” Upon hearing that, he returned immediately.

Seeing this pastor return made it even more evident that he was not born again. If he were a born again person, he could have replied, “Whatever. Just because you say that, does that make me not born again?” Wouldn’t he have just continued on his way?

He was a person who was very refined in terms of character. Had that been a requirement for becoming a pastor, I would never have been able to even consider entering the ministry. No matter how beautiful you are on the outside, the Bible says, “That which is of the flesh is the flesh.”

In John 1: 12 & 13 it says, “But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name: Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.”

The will of man here is talking about man’s determination. “I will be tithing starting from today.” “I will come to church every Sunday from today.” “I repent of all the sins I’ve committed. From now on, I will never sin again.” This kind of determination comes from the will of man.

As we know, the book of John is the last written book of the 66 books that comprise the Old and New Testaments.

Around the time the book of John was recorded, there were Jesus’ younger brothers, Peter’s nephew, and there must have even been the nephews of Apostle Paul.

When I was attending Sunday school, a teacher taught me to have compassion for beggars. That teacher said, “One day, I saw a beggar. I had a new coat, and I put that coat on the beggar. Then I turned around and left.” When I heard that, the teacher seemed so amazing and respectable to me. I wanted to become that kind of a person. I wanted to do something like that teacher had done.

At the time, I had a brand new bill that I carried in case of an emergency. I decided to give that money to a beggar. I gave that new bill to the beggar, and I did not turn back around but just ran away. After I did that, I felt so satisfied in my heart. For a long time I thought, “That’s what I did for the beggar.” I was very satisfied with myself as I lived spiritual life. However, it was not the Holy Spirit doing it. It was a person, it was “Me.”

When you teach people this way, they can appear to be doing good, but that is completely different from Jesus Christ entering our hearts and working. Another way of putting this is in Genesis chapter 3. Each time man tried to do something, death, sadness, and pain started. Why is your spiritual life dying? A while ago, when we had our national pastors’ meeting, there was a pastor who testified that in a matter of several weeks, 20 people received salvation. While praying, he went to a hospital and handed out the book, The Secret of Forgiveness of Sin and Being Born Again, to patients. That was the starting point of people getting connected and receiving salvation.

Upon hearing his testimony, about a hundred pastors received grace and were thankful in their hearts. The problem was what happened afterwards. When I visited other regional churches and saw the pastors there, they wanted to be like that pastor who gave his testimony. In the book of Acts, Peter gives a sermon to the people of Israel. It is recorded that 3,000 people received salvation through that sermon. What Peter preached is recorded in the Bible, word for word. I could memorize his sermon, and can deliver the sermon exactly the same as Peter did. But if I do that, will 3,000 people receive salvation? You cannot expect something like that to happen.

How was the book witnessing at this hospital accomplished? The Holy Spirit leads our hearts: “Go to the hospital and give the patients books. I will work through you.” That heart has to form and make everything happen.

However, in our case, it is not the Holy Spirit that takes us to an empty room to pray. We try to drag the Holy Spirit to an empty room so that we can pray ourselves. Who is the actual guide of your spiritual life? Is it the Holy Spirit, or is it you? Through whom is your life being accomplished?

In Leviticus 1, when the burnt offering is completely burned, God smells it and is satisfied. However, who works so that the burnt offering is burned? Does the calf enter on its own accord and put a knife to its own neck? Does it then fall over and lie down on the altar by itself? The priest does all the work.

Who is it that works to change us? It is not us; it is Jesus. The problem is we do not have the eyes to see Jesus, who is burning our flesh. So, we try to carry our fleshly problems on our own.

There are many people who say, “I cannot live spiritual life for such and such reasons.” Who labors to receive the forgiveness of sins? Leviticus chapter 1 does not show the characteristics of the calf in any way. It does not reference any of the work that the cow performs. It is completely irrelevant if the cow is strong or weak, soft or rugged, stubborn or gentle, or mean or kind. The procedure was the same.

Once it entered the court of the tabernacle, its neck was slashed with a knife. It then would shed its blood and collapse. The priest skinned it, cut it into pieces, removed its innards, washed it with water, and burned everything with fire.

Strong cows had to go through this process. Weak cows also went through the same process. Wild cows and tame, obedient cows were all the same. They all went through the same process through the guidance of the priest, and in the end, all that was left were ashes.

Spiritual life is not about we, who are evil, trying hard to die. Jesus takes care of everything that is a problem to us. Whenever I read about David, who had such a large and grand heart, who was so wise and so courageous, I envied him. He was so different from me. David forgave King Saul, who endlessly tried to kill him. When I saw this attitude from David, you have no idea how ashamed I felt. This is the kind of person who is a true worker of God. ” I used to think, “Surely God has to use a person this worthy of being called a servant of God.” On the contrary, when I saw myself, who was so small, petty, filthy, and low in comparison, I felt so ashamed.

Then one day, I saw a completely different side of David while reading the Bible. They say that first impressions are very important for people. David surely made a great first impression with me. However, in 2 Samuel chapter 11, I discovered a very pathetic image of David. As you may well know, 2 Samuel chapter 11 speaks about David committing sin with the wife of a man named Uriah. And even more so than just the act of David committing sin, there was also the image of David trying to hide this sin he committed with her.

That image of David looked so childish. David, who is the king of a nation, was trying to cover up his sin. So, he called in Uriah, who was in the middle of battle, and told him to go home to sleep with his wife. When Uriah refused to go home, David began to be afraid and feel small. No one knows where that grand heart of David went. So, the next time around, David got Uriah very drunk. This time, David’s plan was to get Uriah very drunk and then have him sleep with his wife. However, when Uriah refused to go home even after that, ultimately, David arranged for Uriah to die on the battlefield.

One day, as I read about this, I quietly thought about it. I saw that David had two faces. Which one is David’s true image? Is the forgiving and big hearted David his true image? Or was his true image the one that was so small and petty? Was that David’s true image? I then discovered something amazing. David’s true image was that of a person who acted like a cheater after committing sin with Uriah’s wife.

If Jesus Christ changes you, then you can easily change your life on a level that is completely impossible through your own work. For this reason, do not try to reach a certain level by yourself. Instead, look to Jesus Christ who is more than capable of changing you.

When hatred, a lustful heart, evil thoughts, or desires of the flesh arise in your heart, do not try to do it yourself while thinking, “I should get rid of these hearts. ” When you take your flesh and approach the altar, look to the priest who is waiting until your flesh is all burned on top of the altar and disappears into smoke.

If you look to the priest, then you will not be tied down to your weaknesses. You will not be tied down to your bad habits, and you will no longer be tied down to poverty or other circumstances.

In Leviticus chapter 1, when the male calf, the offering, comes before the altar, it is skinned and cut into pieces by the priest. The priest pulls out its insides and washes them with water. The priest burns everything, and only smoke and ashes remain. It is you on the altar as the male calf. Jesus is our priest, pulling out your desires, greed, clusters of your flesh, and your old person, and placing them on the altar.

You cannot assist Jesus in the work He does. The only work for us to do is to look to Him. It is letting go of everything in front of Jesus so He can do the work. First we believe and then we can see. We see Jesus at work ahead of us, and the Lord changes us without us even knowing it.

However, how is it that when my daughter is joyful, it makes me joyful, too? I do not know the exact reason for that, but if I were to buy a piano for my daughter, would I not want a piano that fits my daughter’s heart? If a brother wants to buy me a watch, would he not want to buy me a watch I like?

There was a couple from China who recently came to Korea to sell Chinese medicine. They received salvation and returned to China. Before they left, I had deep fellowship with them about spiritual life. They left their Chinese medicine behind and took the Gospel instead. My wife gave his wife a blouse. They told us that they had a daughter and a son; however, I was too busy to go to any stores. So, I asked other people to buy some jeans and a digital watch as gifts. I also told them to take the husband to buy some shoes.

The husband thought he was buying mid-priced shoes. He looked at the shoes, but he did not know the price. He ended up picking an expensive pair. The person who was escorting him knew the price, and kind of panicked a little, but there was nothing he could do, so he just bought the shoes. Afterwards, when the husband discovered the price of the shoes, he was shocked. He said it cost the same as three months of his salary in China.

When we bought gifts for those two people, we would want to buy them what they want. Then how much more would God, who created heaven and earth, make it the best creation for His children’s sake? If you are born again, this universe will not give you hardship. If a farmer is born again, then that farmer will be able to know that truth as he farms.

There is a brother living in Sungju, who farms watermelons. Whenever this brother gave his testimony, he talked about how God helped him. Once, when it was time to harvest his watermelons, it looked like it was going to rain. He wanted to pick the watermelons before it rained and sell them. However, it was the day before Sunday. He needed to go to church, so he was unable to harvest his watermelons.

He had no other choice, so he harvested his watermelons on Monday, loaded them into his car, and went to the market to sell them.

For fruits like watermelons, prices fall when it rains. This is the case because if you leave the ripened watermelons out in the fields, they will rot. Because of that, this brother thought, “If it rains this much, who would want to come out and buy watermelon?” However, he had no choice, so he picked his watermelons and went to the auction market.

That day, because it was raining, the other watermelon farmers thought the same thing he did, and they did not bring their watermelons to market. They brought them the day before, and sold them all. As a result, the only watermelons available at the auction market were this brother’s watermelons.

It is just that some things appear to be bad and some things appear to be painful in your eyes. It is not actually bad or painful. They are parts of the process of all things working together for good. When you see the final results of it all, you cannot help but praise God. Even Joseph being sold to the house of Potiphar, entering prison, and everything else he went through was for him to become ruler of Egypt and save the lives of the Israelites. That is what the Bible tells us it was all for. And to accomplish this, Joseph's brothers sold Joseph to Egypt. Therefore, if there is somebody today kicking you, persecuting you, or tormenting you, they are also working to make us beautiful in front of God.

There is something interesting towards the very end of the Old Testament. We can see that the last verse of the last chapter of the book of Malachi ends with the word "curse." And it is actually how the entire Old Testament ends. Why does the Old Testament end with "curse?" God gave the law

to the people of Israel. Man tried to do what was recorded in the law, and man tried to keep the law. That is why it ended as a curse. In the New Testament, however, Jesus Christ came to earth.

In Leviticus chapter 1, the priests worked hard to kill lambs and cows. They worked to please God. In Genesis chapter 1, God pleased Himself, creating the world through the word. In the New Testament, Jesus came and did the work that God was pleased with. And as a result, God opened the skies and said, "This is my beloved son in whom I am well pleased." Jesus Christ was the only one in whom God was pleased. The only one who can please God is Jesus Christ. That is why God sends us a curse every time we try to become like Jesus and try to keep the law.

Read the very last part of the last book of the New Testament, Revelations. The Old Testament ends with the final word "curse," but the New Testament ends with the word, "grace." "The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all. Amen." (Revelation 22:21) It means that everything we tried to do but were unable to fulfill, Jesus achieved. It we try to do anything without Jesus Christ, it ends with a curse. If we try to do something on our own, it ends with a curse.

As I lived for the Gospel, there were so many difficulties in front of me. It was not that I did not have any humanistic ways to resolve those hardships. But many times, I trusted them to Jesus because I was ashamed of trying to resolve them through humanistic methods.
